One place to start is to check online for free English and grammar tests.  There are many available websites designed specifically for testing such knowledge.  These websites are also able to offer tips on how to improve upon the skills that you already possess.  There are even websites designed for every competency level so do not be deterred if you are a beginner.  Instead, look for websites that test you at what is called the elementary or beginners level.

If you are wanting to test your knowledge of English grammar for something job related such as a writing career then you might sign up for some freelance writing websites.  They do an English grammar check to mark your knowledge of such things so that the client can better assess their writers, but also it is a good idea to sign up for one or more of these websites for the sheer experience of it.  Freelance writing on a small skill gives you an opportunity to fine tune your writing skills and even to broaden your writing horizans.  The more you do it, the better you will become.

Lastly, you can always take an English couse at a local university or community college.  You can even do so online if you are abroad or simply do not have the time to attend regular classes.  These classes are usually cost effective and do not necessarily have to be taken in conjunction with a degree program.  Many colleges even offer something called an ESL class for people needing to learn English as a second language.  Alternatively, checking with the community resource offices is a good place to start for obtaining  information on ESL classes.
