List of English Words

Learning English as a second language is time consuming. The word or list of words you use in the lessons should build communication skills with the student. The words should help the student learn to communicate in ordinary situations like school, shopping, banking, travel, and eating out. These are activities that most people engage in on a regular basis. So the list of english words you use should be practical and useful. Pick a list of all english words that have the power to teach the student how to speak, write, and listen.

Teachers can come up with words that are applicable to their specific students. For example, if students are in the high school level, words about school subjects and activites can be used to help the student.  Word lists can be tailored to individual grades and lessons. Some lists can deal with eating in the school cafeteria or spending a research period in the library. The list of words for these two activities will differ because the activiity and process is different.  What about a list of words for recess and what children do during this period.  Art class and music certainly deserve a list of their own.  Each class has its own unique tempo and procedures.

Whether a teacher teaches elementary, middle school, high school, or adults different words will apply.  Where do your students do their grocery shopping ? This certainly can generate  a  unique list of words about this common activitty . It teaches writing skills and gives students conversation skills as well. Some words might be shopping cart, frozen food, seafood, fresh fruit and vegetables, cash registers, money, scanners, manager, and more. What kind of sports does your school feature you can design a list of words on each sport. Often sports is the focal point of the school. Even weather is often a good general topic that everyone can relate to.  Build vocabulary lists that relate to everyone so learning English is fun and educational. Vocbulary lists are just one aspect of ESL but an interesting and important part of the process.
